Parking sensor problem

  • Hi all,

we bought Fiat 500L from my uncle that passed away, and that he was not using it so much.

However the problem is that its parking sensors are not working.
When we turn the car on it says "Parking Sensors is unavailable". Then there is a P sign with a triangle continuously on, on the dashboard.

I took it to an electrician, he checked the wirings but couldnt find something.

Then i took it to the official Fiat service center, and said that they cannot connect to the car, in order to diagnose it. They need to replace a. the Body Computer 330 and b. the Electronic control Parktronic control unit.
The Body Computer costs around EUR 700 and Parktronic another EUR 100.
But they said that they cannot guarantee that the Parktronik would be ok after the replacement, if they do not change the body computer.

Any idea what shall i check? Because those 2 are not working, i have a feeling that it might be an earth wire issue rather than both of these being faulty? Should i check something specific? Is there a possibility that both of them got burned if the car was sitting in the cold for some time without moving?

    Thanks

  • Hi,
I would first change the defective sensors myself, cost 25€ per unit.Does not have to be the controller faulty...

  • I would be a bit worried about the 'the could not connect to the car to diagnose it'. The connection to the car is required for a variety of maintenance works, not only repairs.

I connect to the on board diagnosis system of my 500L using a 20 euro Bluetooth adapter and a free app on my android smartphone. Might be worth to spend the 20 euro to check whether the claim of the service center is correct.
